ALÊ SOUTO
(Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 1973)
He studied at the Visual Arts School of Parque Lage (EAV) and the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) between 2002 and 2009 under the mentorship of Anna Bella Geiger, Luiz Ernesto, Chico Cunha, David Cury, and Franz Manata.
Souto is a conceptual artist that works with painting, collage, and installations. His primary influence is the Brazilian neo-concrete movement. He seeks to incorporate art into everyday life and make it an active exploration of the senses and experiences. He works with the idea of the urban landscape as one of his primary conceptual researches, questioning how we transit the spaces as individuals and how this transit builds the city we experience. His materials are cardboard boxes and consumer goods that help him evoke a personal introspection in the viewer with a poetic and playful approach.
His works belong to private and institutional collections such as the Modern Art Museum of Rio de Janeiro, Fernando García Ponce Museum - MACAY (Yucatán, México), and the American British Cowdray Medical Center of Mexico City, among others.
He lives and works between Mexico and Brazil.
